The Victorian Teashop, Matlock bath – Relax in Pleasant Surroundings

The Victorian Teashop in Matlock Bath offers visitors to our wonderful, historic village the chance to enjoy a moment of unique atmosphere. Matlock Bath can be very busy or very calm, but either way, The Victorian Teashop has an ambience all of it's own – a sanctuary from the busy, bustling weekend days of the summer, and warm and friendly when Matlock Bath seems to have fallen asleep.

The Teashop was originally designed to be a facility for the Life in a Lens Museum of Photography & Old Times upstairs, but immediately became an entity in its own right – and just because we're 'Victorian' don't think for a minute we're stuffy. The atmosphere here is pleasant and quirky, you only have to take a look at the rest of this amusing web site to see that.

We don't just serve tea, either – we range from breakfasts to 'cream teas' and lots in between – plus a full range of drinks.

The Victorian Teashop is at the very heart of the village and has some charming views. The Victorian ''Jubilee bridge' is just across the road and beyond that the wonderful leafy and undulating hillside of Starkholmes.

The Derwent River runs by us, passing under the bridge and heading South towards Derby. Directly across the road and beyond the river is the rising tree-covered cliff-face of the gorge. Simply gorgeous!

We don't quite serve it like this anymore. It became too much for the staff and the customers felt a little self-conscious.

In victorian times, tea was a very expensive commodity and you were well advised to hold onto it with both hands. Besides, in the absence of central heating it was also good for warming the extremities.

We serve it more like this now – better all round really.

being in the centre of Matlock Bath :

• We serve tea and plenty more besides.
• We have a unique and friendly atmosphere.
• We don't 'do' chips – that's got to be good!
• The decor is fabulous.
• We have a top-class museum upstairs.

• We have lovely views outside.
• We do take-a-way light
refreshments.
• ...Oh, and ice cream in various flavours too!

Miss it at your peril!
